PhD position on signal analysis and computer modelling of atrial fibrillation


PhD Position

The successful candidate will develop an adaptive multi-scale 3D computer model of atrial fibrillation. The model will be built starting from an already existing 3D computer model developed in collaboration with the University of Lugano. This patient-specific model will allow to simulate individual pathophysiological mechanisms and to predict antiarrhythmic treatment outcome, thereby improving personalized non-invasive diagnosis of atrial fibrillation. The project is part of the European Innovative Training Network ‘Personalize AF’ in which top scientists from 6 European countries will collaborate.

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD-student to perform a multidisciplinary research programme. The PhD-student will use a combined electrophysiological and signal processing/data analysis approach and will be trained in both research areas jointly be the Depts. of Physiology and Knowledge Engineering.

The candidate holds a master in one of the following disciplines (or comparable): biomedical engineering, technical medicine, knowledge engineering, applied mathematics, physics (with interest in biomedical sciences). Solid knowledge of signal processing and programming experience in Matlab or Python are also expected. Excellent English skills are a prerequisite for this position.
