Rob Driessen

Rob Driessen studied Medicine at the Faculty of Health, Medicine & Life Sciences (FHML) at the Maastricht University. After receiving his medical degree in 2006, he started as a cardiology resident under the supervision of Prof. dr. H.J.G.M. Crijns which led to his registration as a cardiologist in 2013. He then started a fellowship Intensive Care, under supervision of Dr. D.C.J.J. Bergmans and was registered as a cardiologist-intensivist in 2016. In the same year, he got a staff position as a cardiologist-intensivist at the MUMC+.
In 2017, he started his research trajectory on sepsis, inflammation, and cardiac sequelae of COVID-19 under supervision of Prof. dr. J.C.C. van der Horst, which led to the defense of his PhD thesis “Sepsis in the Intensive care unit; from definitions to outcomes” in April 2022.
Rob now continues his career as a clinician and researcher in the departments of Intensive care and Cardiology, with special interest in cardiac monitoring in critically ill patients and sepsis and its cardiovascular sequelae.
