Magdi Nagy

Post doc

Dr. Magdolna Nagy earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in Clinical Laboratory Sciences at the University of Debrecen, Hungary. She completed her PhD at CARIM, under the guidance of Prof. Johan Heemskerk, Prof. Judith Cosemans, and Prof. Steve Watson (Birmingham, UK), focusing on new patwhays in thrombus formation pathways. During her PhD, she made significant contributions to understanding the intricate mechanisms of thrombus formation by better understanding how blood platelet regulate this process in interaction with vessel wall components, the blood plasma and leukocytes.

After her PhD, she joined the group of Prof. Hugo ten Cate and Prof. Henri Spronk at CARIM as postdoctoral fellow in the clinical thrombosis and haemostasis lab. She worked as part of the Cardiovascular Moonshot of RegMed Consortium where she focused on studying the impact of (anti)coagulation on cardiac regenerative therapy aiming to restore the heart function ex vivo.  In 2019, she received a Contrast Young Investigator Grant from the NHS supported CONTRAST Consortium to investigate the role of the intrinsic activation of coagulation in ischemia reperfusion injury in acute ischemic stroke.

Magdolna is currently working as a researcher within the group of Prof Henri Spronk. In 2022, she was awared with the  prestigous Dr E Dekker postdoctoral grant from the Dutch Heart Foundation for her project focusing on unravelling the impact of contact activation pathway in acute ischemic stroke. Furthermore, she is investigating the alteration of coagulation in atrial fibrillation and the roles of coagulation factor XI in heamostasis and beyond.
