Floor Heubel-Moenen

Post doc

Dr Floor Heubel-Moenen is an internist-hematologist and postdoctoral researcher at Maastricht University Medical Center+ (MUMC+), where she works within the Hemophilia Treatment Center (HBC) and the NFU-recognized Expertise Center for Hemophilia and Allied Bleeding Disorders. Her clinical and research focus lies in improving diagnostics and care for patients with mild or unexplained bleeding symptoms. Floor graduated in Medicine at Maastricht University and completed her specialist training in Internal Medicine and Hematology at MUMC+. She obtained her PhD in 2022 with her thesis ‘Diagnostics and Mechanisms of Hemostasis in patients with mild bleeding disorders and thrombocytopenia’, at Maastricht University. Her research focused on developing and validating novel diagnostic approaches for patients with mild bleeding disorders and unexplained bleeding.

Dr Floor Heubel-Moenen’s research line is firmly rooted in daily clinical practice. Starting from unmet diagnostic needs observed during outpatient consultations, she works to identify gaps in current diagnostic algorithms and translates these questions into targeted laboratory research. Her work spans from clinical phenotyping and standardized bleeding assessment tools to advanced hemostasis assays such as thrombin generation, ROTEM, and flow-based platelet function analysis. In recognition of this translational approach, she was awarded a Translate2Clinic Fellowship in 2024 by Maastricht University. This internal, competitive program supports researchers in bridging the gap between fundamental research and clinical implementation. The fellowship has support to expand her research line, supervise students, and translate innovation from bench to bedside. Floor coordinates the national multicenter BDUC-iN study and is an active member of the ISTH Scientific Subcommittee on von Willebrand Disease and BDUC. She collaborates with national and international experts to define BDUC as a distinct clinical entity and explore pathways for ICD-code recognition. She also contributes to national guideline development and co-leads educational initiatives on bleeding disorders. Through her combined role in clinical care, diagnostics, and translational research, she aims to build a sustainable line of innovation that improves the diagnostic process and personalized treatment of patients with bleeding symptoms.
