Nomination ‘Outstanding Young Translational Researcher-lecture’

 

Cardiologist and researcher An Moens of CARIM/Maastricht University Medical Center is nominated for the ‘Outstanding Young Translational Researcher-lecture’ at the Basic Cardiovascular Science meeting of the American Heart Association. She was nominated as a young successful researcher because she emphasizes the interest of translational research firmly in her projects and grants. Her lecture will be presented to different American universities at the Grand Round meetings.

We would like to inform you about the grants that the Netherlands Heart Foundation awarded to six CARIM researchers:

 

  • Dr. Paul Volders, Project: Importance of the KCNQ1 Transmembrane Segment S6 for the Adrenergic Control of Cardiac Repolarization.
  • Dr. Bram Kroon, Project: The Effects of Vitamin K2 supplementation on the progression of Coronary Artery Calcification.
  • Dr. M.M.J. van Greevenbroek, Project: The classical, the lectin and the alternative pathways of complement activation and risk of cardiovascular disease.
  • Dr. Matthijs Blankesteijn, Project: Blocking Wnt/frizzled signaling: a novel therapeutic approach to prevent heart failure development after myocardial infarction.
  • Dr. Paula da Costa Martins, Project: The embryonic transcription factor HAND2 (dHAND) regulates left and right ventricular remodeling towards dilated cardiomyopathy.
  • Prof. Harry Crijns, Project: Assessment of the substrate for atrial fibrillation using tissue velocity imaging of the fibrillating atrial wall.

Beurs Junior Staflid (NHS) toegekend aan Ward Vanagt

Het stipendium Junior Staflid is één van de acht beurzen die vallen onder het dr. E. Dekker-programma voor persoonsgebonden beurzen (Nederlandse Hartstichting).

Dit stipendium is bedoeld voor artsen die hun specialistenopleiding en promotie hebben voltooid en net een aanstelling als specialist hebben vergekregen in een ziekenhuis. Het stipendium omvat een financiële tegemoetkoming in de salariskosten voor een periode van drie jaar en een bescheiden vergoeding voor materiaalkosten.

 

Het project van Ward gaat over de vermindering van ischemie/reperfusieschade in verschillende situaties en omvat zowel experimenteel als patiëntgebonden onderzoek.

Judith Sluimer receives Veni-grant

Judith Sluimer receives Veni-grant

 

Judith Sluimer (dept. of Pathology) has been awarded a NWO VENI grant by the Dutch National Science Foundation. The grant with a maximum amount of 250 k€ is awarded to young, promising scientists, to enable them to conduct new and original research over a three year period.

Judith Sluimer will conduct her research on hypoxia in atherosclerotic plaque macrophages.
