Esther Lutgens receives LNVH jubilee prize


CARIM Professor Esther Lutgens (Dept. of Pathology) received the jubilee prize of the Dutch Network of Women Professors LNVH. Lutgens, extraordinary professor of Immunopathology of the vessel wall, received the 5.000 Euro prize because she is an "absolutely outstanding scientist" within the cohort of young and female professors in the Netherlands.  

The LNVH aims to promote the proportionate representation of women within the university community and celebrates its tenth anniversary this year.  

Esther Lutgens was born and raised in Landgraaf and studied Medicine at Maastricht University. She continued her research training and career at the same university. March 2011 she was appointed professor at the age of 35. According to the jury, Lutgens is a passionate researcher and a role model for both women and men. She is able to combine the management of her two research groups with her family. At the end of this year, Lutgens will leave Maastricht to find new challenges at the University of Amsterdam.
